Funeral Service For Unclaimed Vietnam Veteran

March 6, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

It is again with great sadness that I am reaching out to the community to inform you of the passing of an Unclaimed Vietnam Veteran. Sergeant First Class Robert B. Blake Jr. passed away on January 7th, 2020 at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC. An exhaustive investigation by the Richland County Coroner’s Office concluded that SFC Blake did not have any family that was able to provide final arrangements. It is my honor to use the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program to provide this Unclaimed Veteran, SFC Blake, with his final salute.

Sergeant First Class Robert B. Blake Jr was born April 16th, 1948 and entered the United States Army in 1966. SFC Blake served honorably in the US Army for 23 years receiving a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Metal, Commendation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Combat Infantry Badge and a Parachute Badge. He retired from the US Army in 1989.

A service with Full Military Honors for SFC Blake will be held at 12 PM on Friday, March 6th at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. A procession will begin at 11 AM, leaving from Caughman-Harman Funeral Home- Lexington Chapel, 503 N. Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. The escort will be provided by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Patriot Guard Riders.

The mission of the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program is to ensure that every Unclaimed Veteran is provided with their Final Salute. We ask the community to please consider joining us to serve as family to Sergeant First Class Robert B. Blake Jr.
