Childhood Cancer Sucks Ride

June 29, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Meet Clay Dixon
I believe it was at 6 years old Clay was given 15 months to live. It is by shear grace and blessing that we’ve had the honor to share so many years with him and his family. We will watch him walk with his class and graduate. It is an unheard of in the medical field. Please read the update from his mom and consider sending him a card for graduation and then make sure to come meet him at our place June 29th.

On Friday May 31, 2019, Clay Dixon will be a High School Graduate!! Clay is in all honor classes, is 3rd in his class, has a 4.9 gpa (since 6th grade has had all A’s), is the President of Swansea Ffa, works 2 part time jobs, volunteers when asked and still finds time for his love of G*d, family & friends! We are beyond proud of him Life has not been easy for Clay but he has always made the best out of a bad situation. Not only growing up with a terrible brain tumor but other stages in life have been hard as well. I remain very private for the most part but in day to day life, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. Jacob & Clay have both been the most amazing Sons, always understanding and helpful. As their Mama, I couldn’t be more proud of who they are and I know as their Dad, Johnnie feels the same way! Clay has been accepted into Midlands Technical College through their “bridge program”. After 2 years there he will graduate with an Associates in Science Degree then bridge over to University of South Carolina. Clay was awarded a partial scholarship to Charleston Southern University but chose not to go. He said he new how much it would cost for him to go to college there and it was financially better for him to go to tech near by.

I’m so grateful that G*d has a plan for Clay! It’s heartbreaking to see how childhood cancer robs children and families of the time that they deserve. Clay’s last mri showed a stable disease (thank G*d). He has been really tired all the time but I think it’s honestly that he does so much!! I’ve been wanting to update his page but with working full time and always busy doing something, I never get time to do that. I’m sorry, I know there are so many of you that look for updates on Clay.

Last week I had a moment where the tears started to flow (it was like ugly crying). I was driving in my old, clunky truck (98 Tahoe 😉 and was praying. That’s mostly when I talk to G*d. I’m alone and it’s quiet, just me and him I was praising G*d for all that he has done in Clay’s life! For all the hard times that our family has survived. For protecting Clay from such a deadly disease; a monster living inside of him. Then I remembered there was a time when I thought I wouldn’t get to see Clay graduate because he might not be here. I’m sure the man next to me at a red light thought I was crazy!

Please continue to pray for Clay!! The next few weeks are going to be busy for him with lots of final exams. Also, please pray for our family too. So much is changing, life is stressful and financially sending not only 1 but 2 to college could possibly be the death of me. I do not like the book store, that’s like highway robbery!!! Neither of the boys qualify for grant money (free tuition) because of our income (keep in mind, we’re a normal income family, like week to week). But if they had a dependent (child at 18/17 yrs old) or were here illegally they could get grant money from the wonderful State of South Carolina and go to school for free!! I just about fell out the chair when the financial department lady told Jacob that! She did say “on the bright side, you do qualify for student loans”. Jacob looked excited till he looked at me! I was in disbelief. They are the first in our family to go to college. Jacob kept a 3.5 gpa his first year and has decided to go to summer classes also instead of taking a break. Please pray for Jake that he will find a job that works with his school schedule. Thank you to Kelly Carroll for Clay’s senior pictures that she set up last week!! The photographer was amazing and they were taken in beautiful Charleston, SC (Historic District). He enjoyed every minute and what we’ve seen so far are awesome! Our mailing address is: PO BOX 1223, GASTON SC 29053 if anyone would like to mail Clay a card! Your welcome to include some life advice because he’s about to be in the adult world at 17! Thank you for caring about Clay as much as we do. Love to all~
