American Legion Riders of South Carolina Announces Plans for the 6th annual American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund Motorcycle Benefit Ride on April 22 – 23, 2017
Sumter, South Carolina – The American Legion Riders of South Carolina (ALRSC) have announced the 6th annual statewide American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund Benefit Run during April 22 – 23, 2017. This statewide ride will involve ALR Chapters throughout the state and will raise money for the scholarship fund through pledges made for every mile each rider completes or donations made. Riders can also have friends and co-workers make pledges based on the rider’s miles ridden. The run will start in Rock Hill on Saturday morning and will head south on the Cherokee Scenic Parkway and then head towards Greenwood for an overnight stay. After an overnight stay in Greenwood, the riders will proceed to Chester then to Chapin where they will all gather for lunch, a short break and the final leg of the ride to the State House where the ride will conclude. Riders may elect to ride the entire 600 miles, or any combination of the route, including riding just one leg of the route, at the rider’s discretion.
The American Legion Legacy Scholarship provides scholarships to children who have had a parent killed on active military service since September 11, 2001 and post-9/11 veterans with a disability of 50 percent or higher. South Carolina has had 95 heroes’ die while serving in the War on terror. During the past 5 years, the ALRSC has raised over $250,000.00 through the generosity of supporters throughout our great state.
“This event will be a great ride and for a great cause. The American Legion Legacy Scholarship helps ensure that the children of our fallen heroes have a chance to go to college. As a nation we must step forward and support these young people,” said Darrell Hodges, Assistant State Director of the American Legion Riders and Director of Chapter 15 of Sumter. “One hundred per cent of the money raised will be carried by representatives of the ALR of South Carolina and proudly donated on behalf of South Carolina during the National Legacy Run.” There are NO administrative costs associated with this event stated Greg Williams, Assistant Director, ALRSC Chapter 15, Sumter, SC.
