2019 Ride to Give Motorcycle Run
August 17, 2019 @ 8:00 am
On Saturday, August 17, Laurens Electric Cooperative will host its 2019 Annual Motorcycle Run.
This event will differ only slightly from the Poker Runs in years past. Instead of playing cards, riders will receive prize-drawing tickets at each stop along the route.
Where: The ride will feature dual starts at Laurens Electric’s main office on Highway 14 in Laurens and at Harley Davidson of Greenville, and will include several locations across the Upstate where participants can rest and draw cards.
Registration: $20 per rider and $10 per passenger. T-shirts may be purchased for $10.
Prizes: $2,500 in cash prize drawings. Winners will be drawn at the final stop of the ride at Harley Davidson of Greenville.
Time: Registration opens at 8 a.m. First bike out follows at 9 a.m. and last bike out is at 10 a.m. The ride will end at Harley Davidson of Greenville. Last bike in at 2:30 p.m.
Fundraising: All proceeds benefit the following charities:
- The Cooperative Caring Fund benefits the Baptist Crisis Center and the Golden Strip Emergency Relief Agency, which use the monies to assist co-op members who face challenges paying their utility bill.
- Through the employee Pay It Forward program, every Laurens Electric Cooperative employee is entered into a random drawing to receive $500 to pay forward in any way they choose. Each month a new name is drawn, and the employee then has one month to apply the funds toward their own act of kindness.
- The Community Impact Initiative, started in 2018, provides grants to local Chambers of Commerce intended for public charitable purposes that enrich the quality of life of citizens in the communities the cooperative serves. One example so far is a $2,000 grant to the group raising funds to build a playground at Ford Elementary School in Laurens.
Each year this event includes more than 500 participants and raises upwards of $10,000. Every motorcycle that drives out of our starting locations represents $20 dollars going to help those in need. Co-op employees volunteer to help manage the event, the riders have a great time, and together we are able to offer real and significant help in the communities we serve.
